Let's Talk About CBD Spectrums
If you’re one of the many people out there who are searching for information relating to hemp-derived CBD, and you’ve wondered what the term “spectrum” may mean, you’re not alone. There are many terms in the world of hemp and CBD to get to know and spectrums are one of those areas to get to learn.
The short answer is this: Spectrum is a term used to describe the range of plant compounds in the product you’re looking at.
There are three options and they are: Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Isolate.
What’s the difference?
The differences between the spectrums is based on the cannabinoid compounds in the end product. When we harvest our high CBD flowers, we press the compounds out. There are hundreds of cannabinoid compounds in the family of plants including CBD, THC, CBG, THCV each with their own amazing potential.
Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol, or Delta-9 THC, is the psychotropic compound of the High THC Cannabis plant. Often referred to as “marijuana”, this is the compound responsible for “the high”. High THC Cannabis is only available in select states via medical or adult-use programs.
In High CBD Cannabis (hemp), CBD is the dominant cannabinoid compound. Broad Spectrum CBD products have all of the cannabinoids as the plant grew them but the Delta-9 THC has been rendered undetectable by required regulatory testing. Some products available today are what are known as CBD Isolate or “pure CBD”. These products are made with just the singular compound of CBD.
In a Full Spectrum hemp-derived CBD product (like what we make at Power Biopharms) all of the plant’s natural compounds are in the end product. This allows for the cannabinoids to play together in what is known as the “entourage effect”. It is generally understood that the plant’s compounds work well together, maximizing potential benefits.
